Janet Yellen Named 78th U.S. Treasury Secretary

Janet Yellen, age 74, has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Treasury secretary in a 84-15 vote. At Yellen’s confirmation hearing last week, she urged lawmakers to “act big” in response to the COVID pandemic. Yellen chaired the Federal Reserve System from 2014 to 2018. She also led the Council of Economic Advisers in the Clinton administration.
