TPG Rise Co-Founder McGlashan Sentenced to Prison

Bill McGlashan (age 57) is a former TPG Capital executive and was in charge of The Rise Fund, an impact investment fund. McGlashan was arrested in 2019 for his role in a college bribery scheme. He was was sentenced to three months in prison. McGlashan co-founded the Rise Fund with U2 frontman Bono and eBay’s Jeff Skoll.

“Your enormous wealth, privilege and pride overwhelmed all of what you want to stand for by your words and charity and philanthropy,” Judge Nathaniel Gorton said at sentencing. “You entered into a conspiracy to cheat your son’s way into a prestigious university by paying someone an inordinate amount of money to correct his answers on the ACT exam, thereby ensuring he would receive a high score.”
