1. Death Valley, CA hits 126 degrees F. Some fires are raging in Montana.

2. U.S. Senate confirmed Lina Khan as commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Tuesday, by a vote of 69-28. Khan penned a 2017 paper, titled “Amazon’s Antitrust Paradox,” arguing that new antitrust statutes were necessary to prevent anti-competitive behavior from online platforms like Amazon.com, Inc.

3. U.S. President Biden and Russian President Putin met in Geneva. Putin says he is satisfied with Biden’s explanation over “killer” comments. Both agree to return envoys to each other’s countries. They both agreed to restart diplomatic relations.

4. U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says leak of taxpayer data is a “very serious situation”. Taxpayer data from billionaires such as Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and George Soros were leaked to ProPublica.

5. WTI oil prices rise 0.3% to US$ 72.32.

6. Celebrities and Tiktok influencers are being paid to push altcoins on social media platforms. A 2019 court filing revealed that Kim Kardashian West can reportedly earn between US$ 300,000 and US$ 500,000 for a single Instagram post. The SEC warned in 2017, “it is never a good idea to make an investment decision just because someone famous says a product or service is a good investment.”

With addictive programs like the Robinhood app (uses gamification), young people are being impacted on investing in these highly-volatile altcoins.

7. Lewis A. Sanders, founder and chief executive of New York investment firm Sanders Capital, sold his 22,000-square-foot, 11-bedroom mansion in downtown Aspen, Colorado for US$ 72.5 million. Lewis A. Sanders was formerly chairman and chief executive of Sanford C. Bernstein (now part of AllianceBernstein). The buyer is Patrick Dovigi, a retired Canadian professional hockey player who is now CEO of Green For Life Environmental, a Canadian environmental services and waste management company. Sanders bought the property in 2009 for US$ 43 million.
